Even if you don't want to keep your network insecure, I do think this is worth a try for you. LAN adapters not made by Nintendo likely will not work with the Wii console. The Wii console can generally only connect to the internet using cable or DSL (broadband) internet services. I think it's a problem with the modem, as the XBOX360 ethernet cable doesn't work either (although it did a few months back, just stopped on day). I reset the router on factory settings.
