I opened the tower once to check if there were any loose wires but I really had no idea what I was looking at. What you are seeing is indicative of a failure related to being able to read the Service area of the platter. Change it to a slave drive and try again. They came originally as RAID config with one drive as a mirror of the other but I changed that years back when I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7.
