This looks like a key problem in that it does not seem to see the shift signal BUT why do I get the error message indicating the "activating XKB configuration"? We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I'm a little frustrated here because a lot of the help that I find is still above my head when it comes to troubleshooting some issues with Ubuntu. I have tried most other fixes but nothing seems to work. I am on Ubuntu 8.04 and OOo Writer.
